Over(optimizing) the Rainbow
From $13.75
Ready to smile from head to toe? Introducing our newest sock design, Over(optimizing) the Rainbow! These socks are available in 4 adult sizes and, if you use our kit, we’ve over-optimized each size for you so you’ll get a beautiful result regardless of how thick your stripes are. *Construction Notes*: If using the official sample kit, when winding your yarn, make sure to wind the yarn in rainbow order so that when you're using it, the colors emerge in reverse order, i.e. green, yellow, orange. Then you can follow the instructions provided to make sure you get a lovely result, or if randomness is your thing, throw caution to the wind and knit on! These toe-up socks begin with a modified version of the Magic Cast On that prevents twisted stitches on the sole stitches. The socks are worked in the round one at a time using Magic Loop, though you can easily substitute your favorite sock method. Waste yarn stitches are inserted for a planned "afterthought" heel, and the leg is worked to the cuff. Note that these socks may be knit two at a time, but we recommend completing the toes first so you can distribute the stitches as indicated. We recommend your sock be 0.25” - 0.75”/0.5 - 2 cm smaller than your foot in circumference, and 0.25” - 1”/0.5 - 2.5 cm shorter than your foot in length. Most knitters won't require modifications. Foot length is easily modified by inserting the waste yarn stitches 1 stripe earlier or later, and the heel can be deepened by adding extra rounds before the decreases or shortened by reducing the number of decrease rounds. Note that results will vary if you instead use B to make a multi-color heel. First time sock knitters should follow the pattern as written without modification.
