Field & Sky Shawl
From $15.25
Field & Sky is an asymmetrical triangle shawl that has it all: shimmering yarn, the perfect drape, knitterly construction, and a fun new stitch! The concept began with designer Andrea Cull’s selection of beautiful Merino & Silk blended yarn in colors that reminded her of the plowed earth & expansive sky over the Oklahoma grasslands. With the clever placement of stitches, this engaging shawl looks much more complex to make than it actually is! Knit in a loose gauge, it’s airy & light and easy to wear any day of the year. As if the shimmering yarn and fun construction weren’t enough, Andrea is also introducing you to her fun new Lasso Stitch, for which you'll earn the adorable Lasso Badge. Construction Notes: This shawl is shaped in two phases. First, you'll cast on a few stitches for the tip, increasing evenly on both sides every row. On right side rows, the increases are offset by the Central Double Decrease (CDD), which creates the central spine and forms the large Chevron-shaped angle of the fabric. Once you reach the widest part, you’ll create a vertex by ceasing the increases on one side. This shifts the stitch counts as you go and the CDD moves toward one edge, while the opposite side edge continues to elongate. Once the CDD reaches the edge of the fabric, you’ll bind off dramatically, creating a triangular shawl. Block your work with pins or blocking wires to smooth the edge where the bind off occurs.
